In Shopify, a SKU (Stock Keeping Unit) is a unique identifier assigned to a product or a specific variant of a product. It is used to track inventory and manage products across a store’s catalog. MassCat identifies products based on the SKU field in Shopify. Therefore, a product must have a SKU assigned in order to update it with MassCat. Simply add the list of SKUs for the products you want to update into the MassCat app.



3. Where can I find the SKU of a product ?

You can find the SKU value on the Shopify product details page. In Shopify, SKUs can be assigned at the product level or at the variant level. This means that you can have one SKU for a product, or you can have a unique SKU for each of the product’s variants. To update a product with MassCat, you can use either the product SKU or the product variant SKU.

4. How does MassCat handle product variants?

‍MassCat works with both main products and their variants. If your product variants have unique SKUs, they can be added to manual collections just like any main product.



5. Which types of collections are compatible with MassCat?

‍MassCat only works with manual collections. It doesn’t work with automated collections because those are based on conditions like tags or price etc. Automated collections are typically better for permanent categories like “coats” or “shoes,” where the products are automatically added based on set criteria.

‍Yes, you can add products to multiple collections in one go, saving time on bulk updates.

7. What errors might occur when adding products through MassCat?

‍Errors may occur if a SKU is invalid, a product does not exist in your Shopify store, or there are sync issues. You will receive a detailed report after each completed process, which includes any errors encountered during the update.
